Prolific Machines raises $50M

Prolific Machines, a San Francisco, CA-based biotechnology company advancing biologics development and manufacturing, raised an initial closing of its $50M Series B2 funding.

The round was led by Atoms & Bits and Nant Capital, with participation from Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Mayfield, SOSV, and Fonterra’s venture arm. As part of the financing, James Stewart, founder of Level One Fund and Atoms & Bits, and Patrick Soon-Shiong, M.D., founder of NantWorks, have joined Prolific Machines’ Board of Directors. The raise brought the total amount to over $100M.

Led by CEO Deniz Kent, Prolific Machines develops an optogenetics-enabled platform combining light-inducible cell lines, plug-and-play illumination systems, and AI-driven process optimization to enable dynamic control of protein expression in standard bioreactors for biologics development and biomanufacturing.

The company intends to use the funds to scale its platform for biomanufacturing, expand programs with pharma companies and biotechs across its campus and CDMO network, and support its growth.
