Investment: “Polaris Electro-Optics raises $50M”

Polaris Electro-Optics, a Carlsbad, CA-based provider of an electro-optic modulator technology platform for AI, datacom and telecom infrastructure, raised $50M in new funding. The round was led by Walden Catalyst Ventures.

Other participants in the round included Socratic Partners, Cambium Capital, Knollwood, Hudson River Trading, Koch Disruptive Technologies, M Ventures, Rhapsody Venture Partners, Buff Gold Ventures and Blue Sky Capital.

Led by CEO Morten Nissov and CTO Cory Pecinovsky, Polaris Electro-Optics develops a proprietary electro-optic platform, FenGlass, to deliver energy-efficient integrated photonics solutions. The company is based in Carlsbad, California.

The FenGlass solution integrates ferroelectric nematic glass onto finished silicon photonic wafers to enable 400 Gbps per lane data rates and beyond with sub-volt drive voltages in a compact footprint, targeting AI, datacom and telecom infrastructure applications.

The company intends to use the funds for portfolio expansion, volume scale-up, product tapeouts, qualification, and engineering hiring at both company sites.
