Investment: “Chobani raises $1.2 billion”
Chobani, a leading food company known for its dairy products, announced a roughly $1.2 billion investment to establish a state-of-the-art 140,000 square metre production and logistics campus in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The project is expected to create more than 900 jobs and serve as the company’s strategic hub for next-generation food and beverage products.
The move is being implemented as part of an expanded collaboration with Keurig Dr Pepper (KDP); Chobani will assume KDP’s Allentown production facility, storage areas, equipment and infrastructure, building on a site that first began operations in 2021.
Chobani founder and CEO Hamdi Ulukaya, who visited the plant prior to the announcement, emphasized the existing talent and infrastructure at the site. The company, which has recorded an average annual growth of about 20% over the past three years, plans to leverage the Allentown campus to increase capacity through new equipment and technology and to accelerate product innovation from concept to shelf.
The Allentown facility will house around 10 production lines and will focus on new milk products with higher protein and lower sugar compared with traditional milk, offered in multi-portion family packaging, as well as other high-protein beverage products made with real ingredients. Strategically located within roughly 800 kilometres of about 40% of the US population, the campus will enable faster access to major consumer markets and quicker scaling of new products.
The investment is also intended to strengthen ties with local agriculture: when the facility reaches full capacity, Chobani aims to source more than 1.36 billion litres of milk annually from Pennsylvania producers. The Allentown operation is part of Chobani’s broader push that exceeds $4 billion in total investment across its US production network, including projects in Rome, New York; Twin Falls, Idaho; New Berlin, New York; and Norton Shores, Michigan.
“When I first stepped into this facility I saw very special potential here. The plant, the equipment, the scale were impressive, but most importantly it was the people — a highly skilled team that knows how to make quality food. The foundation is strong, and we have the opportunity to build an extraordinary future on top of it,” said Hamdi Ulukaya.
